Your Kanvo Number Rings Now. And It Can Call Any Phone

The number you claimed for texting now takes phone calls in the Kanvo app and places them to any US or Canadian phone, with your number as the caller ID. Here's how it works, and the limits we chose on purpose.

Calls to your number ring Kanvo

When somebody dials your Kanvo number from an ordinary phone, every Kanvo app you are signed in on rings — exactly like a call from another Kanvo user. They hear a normal ringing tone while it does. Answer on whichever device is nearest and you are talking.

Calling a phone from Kanvo

Open the Texting number page (Integrations → Twilio) and type a number into Call a number. Kanvo opens a conversation for that number and rings it. The person you are calling sees your Kanvo number as the caller ID, so they can call you straight back — and that rings Kanvo too.

The limits, and why

US and Canadian numbers only. The same coverage as the numbers themselves. No emergency calls. A Kanvo number has no registered street address, so an emergency dispatcher could not find you. 911 and the other emergency numbers are refused with a message saying so. Call them from your own phone. One phone call at a time,…

Where it works

The web, iPhone, Mac and Android all ring. The Call a number box arrives on the phone and Mac apps in their next builds; the web has it today. Windows has no calling of any kind yet, so it has none of this either.

The catch from last time, still

Texting from your number still waits on US carrier registration. Calls don't depend on it, which is part of why they shipped first.
